I'm saying that most people who get blue screens are retards when it comes to computers. My example was an exaggeration. In your case, you may either have some sort of rootkit/stealth virus, any other virus, RAM/Video card/Processor overheat/overload, fatal error in the client, the tech specs may not be there, or someone could have gotten on your computer and did something to make that happen - because it shouldn't happen. What ever happened to Bootcamp? I remember you said that could run applications and executables for Windows on your Mac?

To get support from Apple you don't need a warranty...

You dont need one from the windows companies either.
Warranty is for actual repairs.

Microsoft don't provide you with any proper support, warranty or not.

And Microsoft does provide support. On my old computer, which had a bunch of issues because of shoddy hardware, I called them quite a few times and they helped me without a problem. When I called Apple about my iPod on the other hand, they were annoying about it. |

Dell! Dell! They didn't make Windows, can you actually get proper support from the company that made the OS?

Yes, I can get proper support from Microsoft. Most, if not all, companies that sell computers with Windows have Microsoft-certified technicians that provide support.

microsoft has subcontracted companies that do the in-field tech work for them, if they are not able to fix it via the phone.

I like both for their own reasons. PC brings in my monthly wage, without it I wouldn't develop asp.net sites and manage SQL servers, win 2k8 servers and all kinds of other Microsoft goodies.
But I love my MacBook Pro. It STOPS me from working 'cos absolutely nothing I need to work, works on it!! Which makes it awesome I enjoy the simplicity of the Mac, whether it's just an illusion or not I don't know, but I feel that when I want to do something I can find out a lot quicker if I can do it or not than scrolling through loads of menus and options on Windows, even when you do choose the correct setting, it still won't work as you'd expect. (Mainly file sharing that rant is aimed at!)But then I love the interaction features of Win 7, dragging a window to the left making it 50% width etc. I really am torn between the two. But one thing is certain, I don't do Linux. |

I actually like this image for the PC user. (even though PC isn't the proper term.)
It shows that a Mac can only be fixed by one person, the professional - The Apple Store While the PC can be fixed by practically anyone - the nerd down your street, the local computer repair shop, and your computer teacher. |

@jay i have to admit that PCs have good support too. apple is known for having awesome support, but many PC companies offer very good service as well. and about the genius bar - i believe you need to have an AppleCare service plan to get free repairs. otherwise, i believe that you do have to pay to get a genius bar appointment. this is the same with basically all computer companies out there.

As far as I am aware, the Genius appointments are free, whether you are covered by AppleCare or not. However, if they determine a repair needs to happen - that's where you may be hit by a charge. But it largely depends on the problem, I've seen a handful of problems dealt with for free on out of warranty machines because Apple accept it's a fault in their manufacturing process and are happy to replace that item if it faults however long down the line -- I think that's pretty good service right there. At least they don't turn around and say 'sorry, one year warranty is up, unlucky!'
